Evie Parking Rules
Parking an Evie at the end of your trip requires a bit more thought than parking a personal car. Remember that the car may be sitting in the spot for a while before it goes on another trip, and the parking rules may change during that time. In addition to following active parking restrictions, we ask that you park using the following rules to ensure an Evie doesn't get ticketed or towed after your trip.
Rescue an Evie and get $10
If you find an Evie parked in a spot it shouldn't be, we'll give you $10 drive credit for rescuing it! Just email us at info@hourcar.org with a photo of where the car was when you started your trip.
Incorrect parking includes active parking restrictions, any parking that goes against our parking rules, and temporary restrictions such as street sweeping or snow emergencies.
Parking at Trip End
When you are done with your trip, there's plenty of places to end within our parking rules. Parking in a non-allowed spot may result in parking, ticket, or tow fees charged to your account.
You can end a trip within the Home Area at:
- Parallel parking spots on public streets with a limit of at least 2 hours, including Residential Permit Required zones
- City meters with time limits of at least 2 hours
- Green EV Spot Chargers - as long as you plug and activate charging.
- Dedicated Evie Parking spaces
Do not end a trip at:
-
Spaces with upcoming permanent or temporary “No Parking” restrictions in the next 12-24 hours. Minneapolis and St Paul have slightly different rules on this - see details below.
Minneapolis vs St Paul Parking Differences
Minneapolis: Do not end trip if there is a parking restriction in the next 24 hours. This includes all red band meters.
Saint Paul: Do not end a trip if there is a parking restriction in the next 12 hours. This will allow for parking at some red band meters.
-
Parking ramps or surface lots
- Alleyways or other off-street areas
- University of Minnesota or Parks and Rec Board metered spaces
- Any meter or space with a limit less than 2 hours
- Anywhere outside the Home Area. Trips can only be paused when outside the Home Area.
- Blue EV Spot Chargers, labeled with "Public Charging", including DC Fast Chargers.
Parking During your Trip
Parking an Evie during your trip is much easier - you can park during your trip at:
-
Any spot without active parking restrictions for the duration of your parking. This includes spots where you can pause a trip but not end a trip, such as parking lots and spaces with future parking restrictions.
-
City meters without paying for parking costs, as long as you're following the posted parking time limit.
- Make sure to pay for parking costs at non-city meters and any paid lots or ramps.
Evie Parking Included
Evie parking costs are covered at all city meters, as long as you follow the posted parking time limit. This includes Event Rate meters as well!
This does not include University of Minnesota or Parks and Recreation Board metered parking.
HOURCAR Parking NOT Included
HOURCAR parking at city meters is not included in the service. If you're parking an HOURCAR at any meter, you'll need to pay for the meter costs or risk a ticket fee.
Do not park at:
- Any parking spots or lots with posted restrictions active during your parking duration.
Dedicated Evie Parking
In addition to dedicated parking at green EV Spot Chargers, you can find additional dedicated Evie Carshare parking in the following locations. These spaces are labeled on the app with a parking icon. Be sure to park in the space with the sign indicating "Evie Carshare Parking Only".
Snow Emergency Parking
Follow the snow emergency parking rules for Minneapolis or Saint Paul to avoid ticket and tow costs. Our app will also include a pop up of active parking restrictions during snow emergencies.
