Application and Membership

Application Process

To become a member, submit an application and wait 1-3 business days while our staff processes your application. All drivers must meet the membership qualifications to be approved.

  • Note that your application is considered incomplete until all documents are uploaded and a payment method is provided. Your application will not be processed until all required information is submitted. A $15 registration fee is automatically charged upon the addition of a payment method. Please be sure to add any promo codes you may have prior to submitting your payment.

When resuming your application

If you pause your application and come back to finish it later, go back and click ‘Create your account here' again to continue the process. If you attempt to log in without full completion of your application, it may be considered incomplete and delay processing.

When you have fully completed your application, send us an email at [email protected] or call us at 612.343.2277 to let us know so that we can process it in a timely manner.

Once your application is approved, you can use the app or a GoTo card to book, start, and end trips.

  • If you need a GoTo card, request one at hourcar.org/goto. You can also elect to link an existing card with this form.

Refer someone to HOURCAR using the code found in the Evie Carshare app and you’ll both receive a $25 driving credit. Your referred friend will receive the $25 when their application is approved. You will receive the $25 once your friend takes their first trip. This credit cannot be combined with other sales or promotional offers.

Application Materials

You’ll need to provide a few materials upon application. We use these materials to ensure that applicants meet our membership qualifications. To complete your application, you’ll need to have the following items handy:

  1. Photos of the front and back of your valid driver’s license

    • We can accept temporary licenses. Please include your expired license in the photo
  2. A selfie holding your license taken in clear lighting

    • We ask that our members provide a selfie taken today so that we can verify that you are applying, and not someone else with access to your photos
  3. Your payment method

    • This can be a credit, debit, or prepaid card.
  4. An email address and phone number

    • You should provide contact information that you will reliably have access to use.

Out-of-State or International Driving License holders

  • Depending on where your license was issued, we may need you to provide additional documentation of your driving experience and history.
  • If your license and driving history is from outside the United States or from one of the few US states we cannot request records from, we will contact you via email or phone after we receive your application to help you get what you need. This may add some extra time to your processing.

Membership Qualifications

All Members

Every applicant must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Provide a functioning phone number and email address for contact purposes while using our services.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license.

  • Have at least one (1) year of fully licensed driving experience in the calendar year prior to application.

    • Driving experience while holding a provisional license qualifies, but driving experience on a learner’s permit does not.
  • Have had no major traffic violations in the past three (3) years and no violations related to drugs and/or alcohol in the past seven (7) years.

    • Major violations include (but are not limited to):

      • Excessive speeding (15+ mph over the limit)
      • Driving to endanger
      • Leaving the scene of an accident
      • Driving with a suspended/revoked license
      • Vehicular felonies
      • School bus violations
      • Other items may apply
    • Parking tickets are not considered traffic violations.

Additional Requirements

  • If you are 21+ years old and have at least three (3) years of licensed driving experience:

    • You may have no more than one (1) minor traffic violation in the past 18 months AND no more than two (2) minor traffic violations in the past three (3) years.
  • If you are under 21 and/or have less than three (3) years of licensed driving experience:

    • You must have no minor or major traffic violations

Membership Denial

HOURCAR reserves the right to deny membership at its discretion. Members must notify HOURCAR immediately should they become non-compliant with any of the above qualifications.

Cancel Membership

Our recommended way to cancel your monthly payments is to switch the mobility plan on your account to the Backup Plan, which has no monthly fees. You can do this at any time in the app or desktop. Your account will switch to the Backup Plan instead of renewing at the end of your billing month. This will allow you to drive in an emergency or easily re-subscribe to a plan.

If you know that you will not use our service again, you can also fully cancel your account. To cancel your HOURCAR membership, please complete the membership cancellation form. You’ll receive an email confirmation 3-5 business days after submitting your cancellation request.
